Martex Fiber Southern Corp. has acquired the Charlotte, NC-based waste services division of Bollag International. Bollag collects and markets textile wastes including natural and synthetic waste, cuttings, rags and fabric remnants. The acquisition of Bollag is part of a larger global expansion strategy Martex Fiber is pursuing, which includes the June 2013 acquisition of JBM Fibers, Inc. in Brownsville, TX. Jimmy Jarrett, president of Martex Fiber, and one of the original founders says, “We have increased our global recycling capability to over 160 million pounds per year which provides a tremendous environmental benefit. This acquisition also ensures ongoing supply security for our “Made in USA” fiber (shoddy) expansion, yarn production and global trading distribution.” “We have been working with Martex Fiber through our Central America joint venture agreement for the past four years, and it has been a remarkable partnership,” says Mitch Bollag, president of Bollag International. “The partnership with Martex Fiber has been a key element in our ability to focus and grow our textile waste services business through small to mid-size customers and innovate customer service and product distribution.” The 325 employees of the Bollag Textile Waste Service division based in Charlotte, NC, Honduras and Nicaragua will also be joining Martex Fiber. Rick Otero, CEO of Martex Fiber, says, “We also get the added benefit of having Mitch join our executive leadership team along with the Bollag employees, with extremely complementary values and integrity in business. Mitch built a first-class operation and a great global network, covering areas where Martex did not have certain resources. That network and operational capability are crucial as we continue our “No Fiber Left Behind” mission and further globalize our waste services and trading business while expanding our “Made in USA” manufacturing and product capabilities.
